Sadly, many intelligent people harbor extreme antisemitic notions, some unconsciously, for antisemitism is deeply embedded in the culture of the West, despite attempts to invent a seamless “Judeo-Christian” heritage.

I guess I was extrapolating…and yes, I know it has been embedded in Western Civ and tragically so…and yet isn’t there some truth to the flat statement (‘you never meet a smart anti-Semite’); when you meet it, you meet it as a limitation, a corrosion, a corruption; if you meet it in a brilliant person you think, “That person could be even more brilliant if he weren’t an anti-Semite.” It is a kind of spiritual graffiti and when you encounter it in people who live by reflection, awareness, thinking, illumination it is demoralizing, e.g., Pat Buchanan, John Lukacs and, many notches down, John Derbyshire, Taki, et al…
